Dr. Clayton Shiu, a Tianjin-trained doctor under Dr. Shi Xue Min (the famous doctor profiled in the documentary “9,000 Needles”), is excited to come to the Philadelphia area to teach Xing Nao Kai Qiao – Awaken the Spirit and Open the Orifices – Stroke Rehab system. Dr. Shiu has been traveling across America for the last 3 years teaching XNKQ in an effort to bring acupuncturists a non-scalp traditional neuroscience-based acupuncture system that benefits stroke and neurological disorders. He was recently a well-received guest lecturer at the Philadelphia-based Sports Acupuncture Alliance 2019 conference.
This course will include:
• Neuroanatomy of the brain
• TCM patterns of Stroke
• Xing Nao Kai Qiao research and development
• Hands-on needle manipulation techniques with over 12 hours of practice time
• Demonstrations on guest Stroke and TBI patients
• A full foundation toolbox that treats brain circulation and the upper and lower extremity spasticity
The lecture will fully explore the necessary facets of Stroke Rehabilitation and provide the tools of needle manipulation that can change your practice and benefit this special population of patients.
This foundational XNKQ unit is the pre-requisite for participating in Dr. Shiu’s Nanopuncture Certification series, a culmination of his time in Tianjin as well as his 20+ years in the sports and orthopedic field of medicine in NYC. The Nanopuncture series includes further neurorehabilition-oriented modules on Brainstem (aphasia, balance), Concussion/TBI, Cranial Nerves, and more. Dr. Shiu is also a 30+ year Taiji lineage holder and includes Taiji breakouts and clinical applications as part of his teaching approach. Originally a PA resident, Dr. Shiu is excited to return to his hometown of Philly and share his knowledge and advanced needle techniques.
